2017 Gift Of The Heart – Pennsville High School
Woodbury, NJ, April 14, 2017
For Immediate Release
The law firm of Hoffman DiMuzio has allocated close to half a million dollars to its “Gift of the Heart” Community Scholarship Foundation. Forty-one graduating seniors from Gloucester and Salem County High Schools have been selected to receive a one thousand dollar scholarship for embodying the service ideals of the program. This week, the 2017 “Gift of the Heart” Hoffman DiMuzio Community Service Foundation recipients are from Pennsville High School: Logan Beals and Gurvir Singh.
Logan Beals
Through her membership in student council and the National Honor Society, Logan Beals has completed countless hours of volunteer work. For her, community outreach may be a requisite of membership but primarily it’s a joy to participate in. One of her favorite projects from this past year is the time she has spent with Calvary’s Kitchen in Carney’s Point.
Calvary’s Kitchen provides meals to families who otherwise may struggle to find them. Logan helps with setting up tables and preparing food. She notes that those who visit the food kitchen are appreciative, and her experience there has given her first-hand insight into how it feels to tangibly improve someone’s day.
Logan has also volunteered for programs such as the Scouting for Food Drive, Camp Edge’s Bike-a-thon, Ranch Hope’s holiday party, Interact club’s turkey drive and the public library’s Maker Day. These experiences have only bolstered her belief in the value of service. In high school, Logan is a member of the Future Educators Association, Interact club, the Mock Trial team, and the Golden Eagles.
Good work Logan!
Gurvir Singh
Growing up in Italy, Gurvir Singh found himself engaged in his community from an early age. He recalls visiting his elderly neighbors, and gradually becoming a consistent presence in their lives, helping with errands and meal preparation. Seeing how relatively simple tasks could significantly improve someone’s day instilled in him a belief that service should be an integral part of his life.
After moving to the U.S, Gurvir started a program at the Delaware Sikh center to provide food for those in the community who need it. He has worked with this program for the past three years and is responsible for regulating the amount of food prepared and helping to serve the food alongside other volunteers.
Additionally, Gurvir regularly volunteers his time to help teach younger tennis players about the game. In high school, Gurvir has consistently made honor roll, received Gold Card, and was captain of the tennis team. In the past he has also participated in the Mock Trial team and history club. After graduation, Gurvir will be pursuing a career in medicine. As a doctor, Gurvir hopes to continue to help his community. Thank you for your service Gurvir!
Congratulations are extended to Logan Beals and Gurvir Singh, as well as their proud family and friends! Their community service embodies a Gift of the Heart.
Next week’s featured recipients will be from Pitman High School.
