In her childhood, Lindsay Barney explains that her mother instilled in her the importance of community service by example. Throughout her time in high school, Lindsay has taken pride in working with the service clubs in her school.
With Key Club, Lindsay makes visits to an assisted living center to play bingo with residents, decorate walkers or wheelchairs, and help with daily exercises. Key club members also volunteer at the Cathedral Kitchen in Camden, where they plate and deliver food to those that visit. Lindsay is a member of the National Honor Society, with whom she completes one her favorite volunteer projects: Operation Blessing. Held at the beginning of December, Operation Blessing is a means for those in the community in need to access holiday gifts for their family. After the club collects donations such as coats, toys and winter clothes, an event is held where parents can “shop.”
Outside of school commitments, Lindsay volunteered for the Ronald McDonald House of Camden, an organization that provides housing for the families of sick children. She coordinated a fundraiser and collected needed items for RMHC on behalf of the Deptford community. Further, Lindsay has taken part in the iCan Bike program, during which she taught a disabled nine-year old boy how to ride a bike. In addition to these activities, Lindsay has been a member of the field hockey team all four years of high school. Keep up the amazing work, Lindsay!
Through Boy Scouts, Harrison Weldner has both participated in and spearheaded countless volunteer projects; after years of dedication, he has officially earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
His community involvement has taken many forms. Harrison has served as Troop Guide, Chaplain Aide, and Patrol Leader. Some of his volunteer work includes making renovations to veterans’ memorials, local parks, churches, cemeteries, community playgrounds and hospitals. For his Eagle project, Harrison refurbished the front entrance to the Gloucester County Animal Shelter and renovated an outdoor section as well.
Harrison is also a member of the National Honor Society, with whom he helped with Operation Blessing. He participates as a member of the West Deptford library’s Teen Volunteer Program. Additionally, as a member of the marching band, Harrison has performed in four years of Memorial Day parades. Following graduation, he hopes to major in education. Great job Harrison!
