The law firm of Hoffman DiMuzio has allocated close to half a million dollars to its Gift of the Heart Community Scholarship Foundation. Forty-nine graduating seniors from Gloucester, Cumberland, and Salem County High Schools have been selected to receive a one thousand dollar scholarship for embodying the service ideals of the program. This week, the 2018 Gift of the Heart Hoffman DiMuzio Community Service Foundation recipients are from Arthur P. Schalick High School: Allison Lowry and Jacob Mihalecz.
Allison Lowry
Throughout her high school career, Allison Lowry has been highly involved in her school community. Her participation has ranged from athletic organizations to planning committees for school events.

As president of Interact, a club dedicated to volunteer work, she is able to help plan countless events to serve her peers and their greater community. For the past three years, she has participated in Relay for Life, a fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. Over the past four summers, she has volunteered as an assistant coach for the Georgetown Summer Swim team. During the past two summer breaks, she also balanced working at Rita’s Water Ice. Further she has served as student council executive president and was selected to represent her school at RYLA, a prestigious leadership conference.
In addition to these commitments, Allison is a member of the Varsity Swim team, Varsity Field Hockey, Varsity Track, and Theatre Academy. Keep up the amazing work, Allision!
Jacob Mihalecz
Community service is a staple for Jacob Mihalecz. He has taken advantage of opportunities to volunteer in both school and extracurricular organizations.
As a member of the National Honor Society, Jacob completes community service hours every semester. As a tutor, he has aided peers and underclassmen regarding multiple subjects for the past two years. With the Spirit and Truth ministries, he has volunteered countless hours at the local soup kitchen, where he is responsible for preparing meals. Over the course of his high school experience, he has dedicated over 70 hours to participating in Relay for Life. Additionally, Jacob has volunteered for the past three years at youth baseball games, where he acts as an umpire.
Aside from volunteering, he is a member of the Varsity Baseball team. In his junior year he earned both the Perfect Attendance award and the Pride award. This year, he has been recognized with the Coaching Award, given to an individual demonstrating leadership qualities and strong communication on the baseball field. Thank you for your excellent work, Jacob!
