2018 Gift Of The Heart – Millville Senior High School
The law firm of Hoffman DiMuzio has allocated close to half a million dollars to its Gift of the Heart Community Scholarship Foundation. Forty-nine graduating seniors from Gloucester, Cumberland, and Salem County High Schools have been selected to receive a one thousand dollar scholarship for embodying the service ideals of the program. This week, the 2018 Gift of the Heart Hoffman DiMuzio Community Service Foundation recipients are from Millville Senior High School: Marta Majewski and Wesley Musto.
Marta Majewski
Following the example set by her mother, who works in the Inspira medical center emergency room, Marta Majewski developed a keen interest in the medical field. Consequently, when she began to seek volunteer opportunities, spending her time at the hospital seemed to be a perfect fit.
For the past four years, Marta has spent three hours every week volunteering at the Inspira Medical Center. Her primary responsibilities include checking in patients and printing badges, but over time she has had opportunities to help with a variety of tasks. She notes her experience guiding lost visitors to their proper rooms, delivering flowers, and transporting a patient in labor to her delivery room.
Additionally, Marta volunteers at Wheaton Arts Village. A few times every year she lends support to events such as the Festival of Fine Craft, and Paws for Art, a collaborative effort with the Cumberland County SPCA. At these events she has helped wrap and package handmade glass goods, and ran a children’s activities booth. In her school, Marta is a member of the National Honor Society, Varsity Swimming, Student Council, and Model Congress. Keep up the outstanding work Marta!
Wesley Musto
When explaining his interest in volunteer work, Wesley Musto cites his family’s influence. Throughout his childhood, he considered time spent volunteering, “just another family get together.”
The Make-A-Wish Foundation annual poker run was one of Wesley’s earliest commitments. As a volunteer, he would organize paperwork and sell various items to fundraise. All profits benefited the Make-A-Wish-Foundation in the hopes that enough funds could be raised to grant one child with a life threatening disease a wish.
Wesley has also volunteered at the Riverfront Renaissance Center. Every month, he helped set up an open house. This involved carrying tables and chairs, serving food, and cleaning up at the end of the evening. He explains it’s a pleasure to be ” a part of an organization that educates people about the arts and how it benefits not only the city, but also the citizens in it.” Wesley has a strong belief in the importance of the arts, having participated in both his high school and middle school theatre programs. Wesley also volunteered at a day care on a daily basis, where he watched kids ages 4 through 7. Thank you for your community service Wesley!
Sincere congratulations are extended to Millville Senior High School students Marta Majewski and Wesley Musto, as well as to their proud parents, family and friends! Next week, the featured Gift of the Heart recipients will be from Penns Grove High School.
