2018 Gift Of The Heart – Our Lady Of Mercy Academy
The law firm of Hoffman DiMuzio has allocated close to half a million dollars to its Gift of the Heart Community Scholarship Foundation. Forty-nine graduating seniors from Gloucester, Cumberland, and Salem County High Schools have been selected to receive a one thousand dollar scholarship for embodying the service ideals of the program. This week, the 2018 Gift of the Heart Hoffman DiMuzio Community Service Foundation recipient is from Our Lady of Mercy Academy: Meaghan Baker.
Meaghan Baker
As a high school student, Meaghan Baker has balanced many commitments that span from filling various leaderships roles to participating in activities such as the Big Brother Big Sister program. She explains, “service is embedded in my everyday life and has shaped me into the person I am today.”
Meaghan has served as a youth representative for the Juvenile Conference Committee of Gloucester County. The committee meets monthly, and provides guidance regarding cases when juveniles have broken the law. As a youth member, Meaghan is relied upon to consider factors relevant to a case, such as motive and school circumstances, and give her unique perspective to other members of the Committee. She notes that the Committee is an opportunity to have a positive impact early on in young lives, before they become adult members of the community.
On New Jersey Congressman Frank Lobondo’s Youth Advisory Council, Meaghan also acts as a representative. The council is a means for Congressman Lobiondo to hear from younger perspectives when considering various current events and social issues.
With the Interact Club, Meaghan has served as the first acting president at OLMA. Interact is a youth branch of Rotary International, that completes projects to both benefit the local and global community. As president, Meaghan oversaw countless community service projects such collecting dental supplies for under served communities. Meaghan is also a participant in the Big Brother Big Sister Program, and a member of OLMA’s Spanish club, Bake club, Art club, and Varsity Lacrosse team. Great work Meaghan!
Sincere congratulations are extended to Our Lady of Mercy Academy student Meaghan Baker, as well as to her proud parents, family and friends! Next week, the featured Gift of the Heart recipients will be from Penns Grove High School.
