2018 Gift Of The Heart – Paulsboro High School
The law firm of Hoffman DiMuzio has allocated close to half a million dollars to its Gift of the Heart Community Scholarship Foundation. Forty-nine graduating seniors from Gloucester, Cumberland, and Salem County High Schools have been selected to receive a one thousand dollar scholarship for embodying the service ideals of the program. This week, the 2018 Gift of the Heart Hoffman DiMuzio Community Service Foundation recipients are from Paulsboro High School: Sean Lucci and Taylor Brady.
Sean Lucci
Throughout his high school career Sean Lucci has been involved with countless volunteer projects and community-driven organizations.
As a class representative on student council, Sean meets regularly to plan events for his class and voice the concerns of constituents. He has held this role all four years of high school. As representative, he became involved with projects such as collecting toys for Toys for Tots, an organization that donates presents to children during the holiday season.
Additionally Sean is affiliated with the Pegasus Players theatre group, a student organization that seeks to both foster experience in the art of theatre, as well as academic success by strengthening critical thinking and an understanding of the universal themes in the human experience. Sean’s interest in the arts are not limited to the Pegasus Players; in his junior year, he participated in the Joy Afterschool program and directed a documentary about Paulsboro High School.
In his senior year, Sean also began volunteering as an orientation guide; when new students arrive at Paulsboro, he assists them with the transition and walks them through their class schedule. Further, every morning and afternoon Sean is responsible for reading the school announcements for his peers. Keep up the great work Sean!
Taylor Brady
For Taylor Brady, a belief in community service began with a lemonade stand, and has since grown into a life-long passion. She notes one of her favorite aspects of service is the presence of “opportunities and choices right in your very neighborhood.”
On behalf of her high school, Taylor is the designated student representative of the Board of Education. As representative she advocates for policies beneficial to her peers. She loves experience she has had thus far and finds her position to be an excellent learning experience.
Taylor also volunteers with Project ABLE, or Athletes Being Leaders Everywhere. This teaching program pairs select high school athletes with fourth grade students for monthly activities. The lesson plans deal in decision-making, coping with stress and leading a healthy lifestyle. In addition to this program, Taylor has also taken part in can and envelope drives for the Paulsboro and Gibbstown communities, and has raised money by selling products for the National Honor Society at football games. Amazing service Taylor!
Sincere congratulations are extended to Paulsboro High School: Sean Lucci and Taylor Brady, as well as to their proud parents, family and friends! Next week, the featured Gift of the Heart recipients will be from Pitman High School.
