2018 Gift Of The Heart – Glassboro High School
The law firm of Hoffman DiMuzio has allocated close to half a million dollars to its Gift of the Heart Community Scholarship Foundation. Forty-nine graduating seniors from Gloucester, Cumberland, and Salem County High Schools have been selected to receive a one thousand dollar scholarship for embodying the service ideals of the program. This week, the 2018 Gift of the Heart Hoffman DiMuzio Community Service Foundation recipients are from Glassboro high school: Kyra Franklin and Osazee Nosa.
Kyra Franklin
Community service can lead to countless benefits. Kyra Franklin considers the time she has dedicated to be incredibly formative, her experiences bringing greater confidence and a heightened ability to think on the spot.
As Vice President of her school’s Interact club, Kyra has taken part in several projects and fundraisers. In the past two years she raced in Relay for Life, the Autumn Pasquale Run for Hope, and the MS walk. Additional Interact events included trash cleanup in Gloucester County, writing letters to veterans, and contributing to Glassboro’s Unity Day. Kyra is also a member off the National Honors Society, for which she regularly meets a strict standard of volunteer hours. Outside of her club commitments, she has raised money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Oxfam, and Hats Off to Cancer.
In addition to receiving an award for perfect attendance, Kyra attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards as Glassboro’s representative and received Widener’s Leadership Scholar award. Other extra-curricular activities include serving as President of the Class of 2018 and Stage Crew Secretary, as well as being a member of Select Choir, Outdoors Club, French Club, and Engineering Club. Great job Kyra!
Osazee Nosa
For Osazee Nosa, much of his community service is completed through his affiliation with his community church. As the head youth AV operator, Osazee regularly volunteers his time to set up the audio and visual equipment necessary for services. He explains that he chooses to serve the community because “I want to have a positive impact on those around me.”
In his school, Osazee is an active member of Jazz band and Select choir. With these groups, he has provide many a performance for his community. Past events have included several community retirement homes and Rowan University’s tree lighting. In his role as the President of the National Honor Society, Osazee is responsible for organizing and scheduling potential community service events. With NHS, he has tutored students during an afterschool program and volunteered as an usher for the school play. Additionally, Osazee is a member of the Student Government Association, with whom he has participated in an annual community cleanup.
Other extracurricular commitments include Varsity Football, Varsity Track, Black Cultures Club, and Engineers Club. He has also been selected as a member of the Tri-M Music Honors Society. Keep up the great work Osazee!
