Dangerous Drug Attorneys
FDA approved unsafe drugs
Hoffman DiMuzio’s Mass Tort department pursues drug manufacturers, distributors, physicians, and others for harm caused by the drugs they make or distribute.
Approval of a drug by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not mean that the drug is safe, nor does it mean that the pharmaceutical industry or medical professionals are protected from legal responsibility for any such harm.
If you are concerned you may have been harmed in this way, call the personal injury team at the law offices of Hoffman DiMuzio or contact us online for a free consultation to know for sure.
Side Effects Of Unsafe Drugs
For example, a drug manufacturer or distributor may be responsible for inadequate testing or the failure to warn consumers of the side effects of its medication. In some cases, companies may conceal a drug’s harmful effects or mislead the government or consumers about the safety of the product.
Dangerous Drug Attorneys
As an example, the personal injury team at Hoffman DiMuzio is currently involved in litigation over a nationwide outbreak of contaminated steroid medication manufactured by the New England Compounding Center (NECC) in Massachusetts and sold to hospitals, surgical centers and physicians all over the country.
The NECC is a compounding pharmacy, mixing its drugs on-site. Unfortunately, compound pharmacies are exempt from many FDA safeguards, which increases the risk of contamination and has resulted in many instances of injury and death over the last 20 years.
Unregulated, the NECC was permitted to mix steroid medication in an unsanitary environment, and these dangerous drugs were then injected into patients and caused fungal meningitis, with deaths, strokes, and infections to nearly one thousand patients. We brought lawsuits for many of these victims, many of whom still suffer the effects of these dangerous drugs.
Unsafe Drug Settlements
We are pleased that the Court recently approved a nearly $200 million settlement involving the pharmacy that produced the tainted medication. However, others refuse to accept responsibility for their roles in these deaths and injuries and lawsuits are ongoing to hold them responsible for patients being injected with potentially deadly medication.
